Our community partners and neighbours Glebe Road United Church have co-hosted Spring swaps with us for the past few years, and now we have been invited to animate the gym during their 175th anniversary celebration and open house on November 1. This is a Saturday, from 10-2pm. We are inviting our neighbours to come help us help them celebrate through creating a communal art project- upcycled fabric flag bunting! You can bring in fabric that is meaningful to you and reflects the neighbourhood or your part of it. We have also invited members of our collective to contribute to an upcycled market and will open it up to local makers who want to take part. AND our repair advisors will be on hand if you want help with textile repairs (or volunteer as an advisor)
September 20, 12-4pm
We are joining Repair cafe and Our Futures First at the Waterfront Neighbourhood Cntre for a make and mend event. The Repair Cafe team invite people to bring their small appliances, bikes, clothing etc. (one item at a time) to either fix or advise how to repair, while we invite people to upcycle fabric into new items and keep waste in use. At this event we will be turning used T-shirts into shopping bags and learn simple skills to stuff and complete pillows with hand sewing. This bit of matchmaking was inspired and supported by Natalija Vojno of Our Futures First, who applied for (and received) a Climate Action Champion Grant for the event, through the LiveGreenTO group and the City of Toronto.
