Summer of Care, Share and Repair 2026

Picture
We are bringing textile repurposing and repair to community events across the GTA as part of our Summer of Care, Share and Repair - reach out via email HERE if you want us to support your event with a textile reuse or repair activation.  (please note: the email is monitored sporadically by humans, expect a reply in a day or two) This project is supported by the City of Toronto through Live Green Toronto and the Neighbourhood Climate Action Grants program.

Last year we lead a series of swap/repair/art events called the
Winter of Care and Repair Club. The name comes from an online challenge issued by textile artist Jeanna Wigger @thepeoplesmending starting in 2020.  This year, with a new grant, we want to offer support to existing swaps + community events in different neighbourhoods, by leading repair and upcycling workshops to enhance the events. This project is a series of swap/repair/art events called Summer of Care, Share + Repair. This project will encourage participants to come out to swap, repair items, share skills and discover other eco-activist groups, individuals and institutions in neighbourhoods across Toronto, in person and online via #SummerofCareShareRepair2026. We are doing this project to encourage and connect groups across the GTA, as well as allow us to redistribute clothes in a circular model, where participants
contribute and benefit from the swaps. We believe there is enough for everyone, and with a little help to connect people, we can keep many clothes and textiles in use and out of landfills. This project will build on the swap and upcycling experiments we have done since 2018.

The work began with our own event in midtown Toronto, our annual spring clothing swap, and you can read ALL about that in this BLOG POST.  Our next events will be the Ring in Spring community fair in June Rowlands Park on May 9 (you can see some images from last year on our Instagram HERE) and we hope to join the artist materials swap at AGB (as volunteers) at the end of May (TBC)

THIS PAGE WILL BE UPDATED WITH DETAILS AS WE CONFIRM PLACES AND DATES!

Events in this series (FREE and DROP IN = OK unless otherwise noted):
  • COMPLETED: Spring Neighbour-to-Neighbour Clothing Swap at Glebe Road United Church, 20 Glebe Rd. East https://maps.app.goo.gl/odXNAfhkLH6EBb3AA
  • UPCOMING: Saturday, May 9, 10-3 Ring in the Spring 5th Annual community fair at June Rowlands Park.  We plan to have a PLANT SWAP and various upcycling activities for OVERLOVED textiles.  We will take damaged or weird textiles and use them as stuffing for pillows OR make clothes for toys, with a possible upcycled clothing fashion show by the garden.
Events are open to all, we hope to see creative people from the community, making things together and learning from each other.  If you can't come out (or even if you can) let's also share online on instagram with the hash tag #SOCSAR2026 #summerofcareshareandrepair2026 and please tag our account @works.in.progress.to

Our first event was our Clothing Swap, Care + Repair repair advice table and Maker swap on Saturday, March 14th at Glebe Road United Church.  We have a long blog post for that one, as we had a lot of thoughts and feeling.  Please read the blog post HERE to find out all about it.
